Pennetta is on the semi-finals of the US Open

Flavia Pennetta reached in the semifinals of the US Open again. The No26 veteran defeated the fifth placed Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic with 4:6, 6:4, 6:3 after two hours and 23 minutes. For Flavia this is a second time, when she reaches the last four in New York after 2013.

In the first set, the service of Petra was weak, but Pennetta lost a big number of break points. The Czech woman broke for 5:3 and served for the set, but the Italian managed to return the break. In the next game, the 33-year-old Flavia led with 40:0, but lost the part after two double errors.

In the second set, the two players exchanged some breaks. Pennetta was able to achieve a break for 5:4 and served to level the parts. In a dramatic game, Flavia scored a third set-ball, and meanwhile saved two break points.

In the concluding part, the Italian broke for 3:2. Pennetta continued to make fewer mistakes and made another break for 5:2, then served for a place in the semifinals. Flavia quickly reached two match from sport predictions points and in the second, she raised her hands victoriously.

Pennetta finished with 21 winners and 16 unforced errors. Kvitova made 41 winners and 60 errors.

In the semi-finals, the Italian expects the Romanian Simona Halep.
