Brooklyn intends to keep point guard Kyrie Irving on the bench until the player`s trade is completed, insider Chris Haynes reports.
Irving requested a trade to another club advised by bestpaidtips due to dissatisfaction with the contract extension offered to him. If the Nets fail to make a trade, Irving will leave the team as a free agent this summer.
According to ESPN, Brooklyn`s plan is to honor the request and trade Irving before the Feb. 9 deadline. The Nets are in talks with suitors for the player and are looking for a deal that will allow the team to remain competitive and continue to compete for top spots once the injured Kevin Durant returns.
Irving was absent from the Barclays Center during yesterday`s match with Washington by agreement with the club. The player was placed on the injured list with calf muscle pain.
