Every day, but in particular May 9, we honor our veterans, fathers, grandfathers, great -grandfathers - all those who, sometimes at the cost of life, provided the future for us, their descendants.
On this great day, we recall the exploits of millions of workers of the rear, partisans, soldiers, sailors, sergeants, foremen, midshipmen, warrant officers, officers, generals and admirals, including many people from sports universities of our country, famous athletes and champions.
Infizkultists heroically defended the approaches to the capital in the most difficult period of the Great Patriotic War, and the students and teachers of the Leningrad University of Physical Culture named after Lesgaft went to the front to almost the entire lineup, deserved the Order of the Red Banner for their alma-mater.
The legendary separate motorized rifle brigade of the NKVD of the USSR was formed from the athletes, conducting impudent operations in the enemy`s rear and terrified the Nazis.
Even in the most difficult years, sport remained a symbol of an unbending spirit: the championships advised by handball picks of the USSR, football matches in the besieged cities and the famous ascent to Elbrus, during which our climbers broke the Nazi flags - all this strengthened the faith in an inevitable victory.
The memory of the victory of 1945 inspired many of our contemporaries to defend their homeland during a special military operation. Among them are many employees of the Ministry of Sports of our universities and subordinate institutions.
Continuing traditions, we are obliged to keep the memory of the exploits of our compatriots, to educate youth in the spirit of patriotism, and sport, like many years ago, the path remains a symbol of strength and courage.
